Lies! All lies! That's what I want to scream at my son sometimes, not that it would help the situation any, but it might make me feel better.
Recently my daughter got to see my son in his lifestyle surroundings, surrounded by "flaming" gay men, most of who were much older (my age!) than him and a few who were closer to his age. She said it was very obvious to her that he didn't fit in. He didn't fit with the older men and didn't fit in with the few younger ones that were there. She said the whole situation felt forced like he wanted to fit in but just didn't. It was encouraging to her to see that which in turn encouraged me, although I was upset about her being around all that. I didn't want it to appear to my son that she accepted or approved of his lifestyle. It's obvious to me through my daughter's experience in seeing my son living it out like that that he's believed the lies. He's believed the enemy's lies and the lies he now tells himself. I'm sure the enemy doesn't have much attacking to do to him at this point. He's on lie-believing autopilot at this point.
You see, the enemy is the father of lies (1). He hates us so much that he lies to us and lies to us about ourselves, and if we're not grounded and rooted deeply in God's Word then we'll believe those lies (2) and fall prey to his plan rather than God's plan. This causes us to take our eyes off God and focus on ourselves. There's a line in a song (Come Alive by Lauren Daigle) that says "one by one the enemy has whispered lies and led them off as slaves." That's exactly what's happening not just in the area of homosexuality but in all sin areas. We've become slaves to the lies we believe (3). However, God is absolute Truth (4). There is nothing fake about Him or His Word. Every letter of it is true. I know this to be true from personal experience. I've experienced too much to turn away from God now. I know that He's good all the time no matter what it looks like, sounds like, or acts like. I know God always keeps His promises, and His Word is full of promises to us as Christians (5).
Find the promise that God has spoken to you about your loved one's situation. Learn it, post it where you can see it, get it down deep in your heart so that when the enemy comes against you with lies, you can speak (6) back to him and say, "Oh no devil! God's Word says _________," and quote it back to him. Silence those lies before they have a chance to take root. This is the way we fight battles, with God's Word, the two-edged sword that cuts coming and going (7).
The Truth sets them free from the bondage of homosexuality and sets us free from the bondage of worry (8).
(1) “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
